Botox (botulinum toxin) was originally introduced (and continues to be used) as a treatment for facial spasms. Patients recognized that a welcome side effect was reduction of wrinkles. So, a new wrinkle treatment was born.
Very small amounts of Botox are injected into the area being treated, causing the surrounding muscles to relax. This relaxation effect reduces the appearance of even quite deep expression lines and wrinkles. Since Botox only works in the immediate area of the injection, natural facial expressions and movements are not affected.
Botox has also been recognized as helping patients who suffer from migraines. Targeting the areas of migraine suffers can greatly reduce the number of migraines they experience.
Patients are advised not to recline for several hours after the treatment and it generally takes up to 5 days for a patient to experience the full effect.
Botox treatments are performed in the South Euclid office on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
